Roben, Mfg, Inc. engineers and fabricates supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) vessels for advanced waste destruction and chemical processing applications. Our SCWO vessels feature specialized materials and designs for operating above water’s critical point (705°F, 3200 psi) where organic compounds are completely oxidized in a homogeneous supercritical phase.
Supercritical water oxidation vessels are high-pressure, high-temperature reactors operating above water’s critical point where water becomes a powerful solvent and oxidation medium. These vessels enable complete destruction of organic wastes and hazardous materials through oxidation in supercritical water, producing clean effluents of water, carbon dioxide, and mineral salts.
Roben Mfg maintains comprehensive certifications ensuring our high temperature pressure vessels meet the highest industry standards:
Every high temperature pressure vessel fabricated by Roben Mfg undergoes rigorous quality assurance protocols:
SCWO vessels use high-nickel alloys (Inconel 625, Hastelloy C-276) and titanium for corrosion resistance in supercritical water. Liner systems protect vessel shells from the extremely corrosive SCWO environment where even these alloys experience accelerated attack. Regular liner replacement may be part of the operating strategy.
SCWO corrosion is managed through material selection, liner systems, transpiring wall designs that protect walls with clean water flow, and designs that keep corrosive species away from pressure-bearing materials. Corrosion monitoring and regular inspection are integral to SCWO vessel operation.
SCWO requires conditions above water’s critical point: temperatures of 750-1200°F and pressures of 3500-4500 psi are typical. We design vessels for these extreme combined conditions with appropriate safety factors and materials qualified for the specific operating envelope.
