Roben, Mfg., Inc. specializes in the custom engineering and fabrication of process towers for chemical, fine chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, defense, and power-generation industries. Every project is designed to ASME Section VIII Division 1 (with optional Division 2), is National Board registered, complies with the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU) for CE marking, and is registered under the Canadian Registration Number (CRN) system for all Canadian provinces.

What Process Towers Are

A process tower is a tall, vertical pressure vessel that performs a unit operation — such as separation, absorption, stripping, scrubbing, or extraction — through controlled mass transfer between vapor and liquid phases. Process towers include distillation columns, absorbers, strippers, fractionators, and reactor towers, and form the backbone of continuous chemical and petrochemical processing.

Why Process Towers Matter

Process towers are essential anywhere bulk fluid streams must be separated, purified, neutralized, or chemically transformed at scale. They are central to oil refining, gas processing, petrochemical manufacturing, fine chemical synthesis, fertilizer production, and environmental control systems. The tower's metallurgy, internals, and dimensional precision determine plant uptime, throughput, and product quality.

Frequently Asked Questions About Process Towers

A process tower is a tall vertical pressure vessel used to perform separation, absorption, scrubbing, stripping, or chemical reaction in a continuous flow process. The tower's internals — trays, packing, distributors — drive vapor-liquid mass transfer.
Every tower we fabricate is engineered with seismic and wind load calculations using software such as Compress, Aspen Tech, and PV Elite. We verify all critical sections with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) when geometry, height, or service conditions warrant it.
We supply skirt, bracket, or ring support depending on the tower's height, weight, and foundation conditions. Foundation, anchor bolt patterns, and base ring details are provided in the design package.
We fabricate trays, support rings, downcomers, distribution pipes, demisters, packing retainers, and reboiler return inlets. We also coordinate the supply of structured and random packing through partner suppliers.
Our process towers meet ASME VIII Div. 1 with U-stamp, are National Board registered, comply with the European PED, and are CRN-registered for Canadian deployment.
