Polyurethane Insulated Pressure Vessels for Petrochemical and Refining

Polyurethane insulated pressure vessels for petrochemical and refining are engineered containers designed for the processing, separation, and conversion of petroleum feedstocks into fuels, chemicals, and other products while maintaining precise temperature control through integrated polyurethane foam insulation. These vessels operate under demanding conditions of temperature, pressure, and corrosive service.

Why are Polyurethane Insulated Pressure Vessels Needed for Petrochemical and Refining?

Petrochemical and refining operations require precise temperature control to optimize reaction yields, maintain product specifications, and ensure efficient separation processes. Polyurethane insulation maintains designed operating temperatures, reduces heat loss from high-temperature processes, and improves overall energy efficiency.

Polyurethane Insulated Pressure Vessels for Petrochemical and Refining FAQs

What temperature range is suitable for polyurethane insulation in refinery service?

Standard polyurethane insulation is suitable for service temperatures up to approximately 250°F. Many refinery applications including product storage, cool-end equipment, and utility systems fall within this range. Higher temperature applications require mineral wool or calcium silicate insulation.

How do you address hydrogen service requirements?

Hydrogen service vessels require appropriate material selection per API 941 (Nelson Curves), design for hydrogen-induced cracking prevention, and PWHT to reduce hardness. Material selection considers hydrogen partial pressure and temperature to prevent hydrogen attack and hydrogen embrittlement.

Can vessels be designed for cyclic service?

Yes, we design vessels for cyclic service with fatigue analysis per ASME Section VIII Division 2 Appendix 5. Cyclic design considers startup/shutdown cycles, pressure and temperature fluctuations, and provides appropriate fatigue life for the expected operating profile.
