Mineral wool insulated pressure vessels utilize rock wool or slag wool insulation to provide excellent thermal protection for high-temperature industrial applications. Mineral wool is manufactured by melting rock or industrial slag and spinning it into fine fibers, creating an insulation material with outstanding thermal resistance, fire protection, and acoustic properties.
Mineral wool is one of the most widely used insulation materials for industrial pressure vessels due to its excellent high-temperature performance, fire resistance, and cost-effectiveness. It maintains thermal properties at temperatures up to 1200°F and is non-combustible, making it ideal for process vessels, storage tanks, and equipment requiring reliable thermal protection in demanding industrial environments.
Common applications include:
At Roben, Mfg, Inc., we offer comprehensive insulation options including:
Our thermal insulated pressure vessels are designed and manufactured in accordance with stringent industry standards:
Mineral wool insulation is suitable for continuous service temperatures up to 1200°F (650°C), making it ideal for most industrial pressure vessel applications. For temperatures above this range, ceramic fiber or calcium silicate insulation may be required. Mineral wool maintains its structural integrity and thermal properties throughout this temperature range.
Mineral wool offers excellent fire resistance (non-combustible), good thermal performance across a wide temperature range, acoustic insulation properties, resistance to moisture and biological growth, and competitive cost. It is also easy to fabricate and install around complex vessel geometries including nozzles, supports, and attachments.
Outdoor mineral wool installations require protective jacketing to prevent moisture absorption and physical damage. Common jacketing materials include aluminum, stainless steel, and PVC. The jacketing system includes proper weather sealing at joints, penetrations, and terminations. Vapor barriers may be required for cold service applications.
