Roben, Mfg., Inc. specializes in the custom engineering and fabrication of hastelloy c-276 / c2000 / c-22 heat exchangers for chemical, fine chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, defense, and power-generation industries. Every heat exchanger is designed to ASME Section VIII Division 1 (with optional Division 2), TEMA Class R/C/B, HTRI thermal verification, and is National Board registered. PED 2014/68/EU CE marking and CRN registration for all Canadian provinces are available on request.

What Hastelloy C-276 / C2000 / C-22 Heat Exchangers Are

Hastelloy is a family of nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloys with outstanding resistance to a wide range of corrosive media — especially mixed acids and hot chlorides. The C-family — C-276, C-22, C-2000 — represents the most widely used grades in chemical and petrochemical heat exchanger service.

Why Hastelloy C-276 / C2000 / C-22 Heat Exchangers Matter

When a heat exchanger contains mixed oxidizing and reducing acids, hot chlorides, wet chlorine, or hypochlorites, Hastelloy is often the only practical material. It is used in flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) reheaters, nuclear-waste evaporators, pharmaceutical reactor/condenser systems, and chemical-synthesis condensers where corrosion control is paramount.

Hastelloy C-276 / C2000 / C-22 Heat Exchangers — Specifications and Capabilities

  • C-276 (UNS N10276) — broadest mixed-acid resistance, most common
  • C-22 (UNS N06022) — improved oxidizing-acid resistance vs C-276
  • C-2000 (UNS N06200) — best all-around resistance, including hot chlorides
  • Tube forms: Welded (SB-619/SB-626) and seamless (SB-622)
  • ASME approved: VIII Div. 1, Section II Part D
  • GTAW orbital tube-to-tubesheet welding with matching ERNiCrMo filler

Certifications and Codes

  • ASME Section VIII Division 1 — U-stamp
  • ASME Section VIII Division 2 — available on request
  • National Board registration — R-stamp
  • TEMA Class R / C / B — shell-and-tube mechanical standards
  • HTRI Xchanger Suite — thermal-hydraulic verification
  • PED 2014/68/EU — CE marking with Notified Body coordination
  • CRN — registered for all Canadian provinces
  • NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 — sour-service compliance
  • ASME Section IX / AWS D1.1 — qualified welding procedures and welders

Frequently Asked Questions About Hastelloy C-276 / C2000 / C-22 Heat Exchangers

When the process side contains mixed acids (sulfuric/hydrochloric/nitric in combination), hot chlorides, hypochlorites, wet chlorine, or organic chlorides. FGD reheaters, pharmaceutical condensers, and chlor-alkali heat exchangers are typical applications.
C-276 is the original C-family alloy with broad mixed-acid resistance. C-22 has higher chromium for better oxidizing-acid (nitric, ferric chloride) resistance. C-2000 has the best all-around performance, including improved sulfuric acid and hot chloride resistance. Selection follows the specific corrosive environment.
Yes — and almost always preferred. A typical configuration is a carbon-steel shell with a Hastelloy-clad tubesheet (½ to ¾ inch cladding) plus solid Hastelloy tubes. This delivers corrosion performance at a fraction of solid-alloy cost.
GTAW (orbital and manual) with ERNiCrMo-4 (C-276), ERNiCrMo-10 (C-22), and matching consumables for C-2000. All procedures are qualified per ASME Section IX, with shop-managed PQRs and WPSs.
ASME VIII Div. 1 with U-stamp, TEMA Class R/C/B as specified, PED for European deployment, CRN for Canadian provinces. Sour-service exchangers meet NACE MR0175
