The performance of a column, reactor, or separator is determined as much by what is inside it as by the shell that contains it. Roben Manufacturing designs and fabricates vessel internals — trays, support grids, baffles, distributors, demisters, and bed supports — engineered to deliver the mass transfer, flow distribution, and separation the process requires.
Internals are precision components. A tray that is out of level, a distributor that channels flow, or a support that obstructs vapor can quietly rob a unit of capacity and efficiency. Our internals are designed to the process duty and fabricated to tolerances that protect performance over the life of the equipment.
Internals Engineered for Process Performance
In distillation and absorption columns, trays and their support rings establish the contact between vapor and liquid that drives separation. We design tray decks, downcomers, weirs, and support rings to the column's hydraulics, then fabricate them to fit the shell precisely so that levelness and sealing are maintained after installation.
In reactors and packed columns, distributors, bed supports, and hold-down grids govern how fluid enters and moves through the bed. Poor distribution leads to channeling, hot spots, and lost conversion. We design these internals for uniform distribution and adequate support, drawing on flow analysis where the geometry warrants it.
Baffles, demisters, vortex breakers, and impingement plates round out the internals catalog. Each is selected and detailed for its function — directing flow, removing entrained droplets, breaking vortices, or protecting nozzles from incoming jets — and integrated with the vessel so installation and future removal are practical.
Material selection follows the service, from stainless steels to nickel alloys and other corrosion-resistant grades. Internals are fabricated alongside the vessel under one quality system, and removable sections are designed for access through the available manways so maintenance does not require cutting the shell.
Why Choose Roben Manufacturing
- Process-driven internals design. Trays, distributors, and supports are designed to the actual hydraulics and duty of the unit, not generic templates.
- Precision fabrication. Internals are built to tolerances that preserve levelness, sealing, and distribution after installation.
- Flow analysis where it counts. We apply flow analysis to distributors and bed supports where uniform distribution is critical to performance.
- Designed for serviceability. Removable internals are sized to pass through available manways so maintenance avoids cutting the shell.
- Materials matched to service. From stainless steels to nickel alloys, internals are fabricated in the grade the process demands.
