Stainless Steel Fabrication Done Right
Austenitic stainless steels — the 300 series — combine good corrosion resistance, toughness across a wide temperature range, and excellent formability and weldability. The low-carbon L grades resist sensitization during welding, which is why they are favored for welded vessels. These grades suit a broad range of chemical, pharmaceutical, and food applications where general corrosion resistance is the priority.
Duplex stainless steels have a mixed austenitic-ferritic microstructure that roughly doubles the yield strength of standard austenitic grades while sharply improving resistance to chloride stress-corrosion cracking and pitting. That strength can allow thinner, lighter vessels, and the corrosion resistance makes duplex attractive for chloride-bearing and brackish-water service. Duplex does require disciplined welding to maintain the correct phase balance, which is where fabrication experience matters.
Welding is decisive for stainless steel performance. We use qualified procedures, control heat input and interpass temperature, protect the weld and root with appropriate shielding, and follow with passivation so the finished surface restores its protective oxide layer. For sanitary service we can provide polished interiors that resist fouling and ease cleaning.
Every stainless vessel ships with material test reports tracing the chemistry and mechanical properties of the plate and welding consumables, along with the weld and NDE records.
